Overview
Each season involved parallel plot lines that intertwine and overlap, centering on both the personal and family life of Jackson "Jax" Teller (Charlie Hunnam) and on SAMCRO (Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original). SAMCRO is involved with gun-running in the western United States, and deals with rival gangs, politicians and the authorities. As vice president and later president of SAMCRO, Jax struggles to manage the club and the legacy of its founder, his late father John Teller. He is frequently at odds with his stepfather, Clay Morrow, who has taken over the club since John's death, and is also now married to Jax's mom and John's widow, Gemma Teller Morrow. Jax also grapples with his relationships with his high school sweetheart, Tara Knowles, and his best friend, Opie Winston.*SAMCRO is said to emulate the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club; the series includes special guest appearances by David Labrava (Happy), Chuck Zito (Frankie Diamonds), Rusty Coones (Quinn), and Sonny Barger (Lenny "The Pimp" Janowitz) who are real Hells Angels members.

With the club divided in the wake of a tragic death, Clay sets up a new gun deal with the IRA.

In an effort to heal the tensions between her husband and son, Gemma organises a meal. Clay comes to an agreement with Oswald when he learns Jacob is planning to run for mayor. Chibs's estranged wife Fiona Larkin (Bellina Logan) shows up at his hospital bedside, much to Gemma's chagrin. Lin has a proposal for SAMCRO, who are surprised to learn Marstein is still alive. Given the accounting job at Luann's studio, he informs SAMCRO that the Triad and the 9ers have been losing territory to the Mayans. When Jax, Bobby, and Opie go to see Laroy to ask him about it, they get something unexpected. Meanwhile, Weston is not entirely happy with Zobelle's latest decision, Gemma's efforts to help Tara backfire, Opie begins to get close to one of Luann's girls, Lyla Dvorak (Winter Ave Zoli), and Edmond begins a relationship with Zobelle's daughter Polly (Sarah Jones).

When SAMCRO's adult film business becomes a hindrance to the club, Clay seizes the opportunity to revive the gun-running cartel. As Jax and Clay continue to clash over club activities, their relationship reaches a new level of antagonism.

Balm
While the repo business proves more fruitful than the club ever imagined, ATF Agent Stahl gets up close and personal with the MC. Meanwhile, tension between Jax and Clay forces Gemma to make a tough decision.

Service
Chibs makes a secret deal with Agent Stahl in order to protect his wife and daughter. Opie learns the true circumstances that led to Donna's death and seeks both revenge and reconciliation.
12.
The Culling
The entire SAMCRO family goes on lockdown inside the clubhouse as war with the League approaches. Opie decides not to pursue revenge against Clay or Tig for Donna's death. Jimmy puts an end to Cameron's deal with Zobelle, agreeing instead to sell exclusively to SAMCRO. As Chibs backs out of the deal with Stahl and attempts to convince Fiona to let him protect her, Clay tells Jimmy that Edmond has flipped. After Jax witnesses Zobelle meeting ?lvarez, SAMCRO inform Weston of the real nature of Zobelle's business dealings. Tara applies the lessons she has learned from Gemma to assert her position at St. Thomas. SAMCRO approach Laroy and Lin about uniting against their common enemies; the League and the Mayans. Edmond re-negotiates his deal with Stahl, seeking immunity for himself and Cameron. Hale makes a decision about what kind of chief he wants to be.
