Airport worker Grace is played by Darlene Love, who famously sings "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)," which is the opening song of Gremlins, also written by Chris Columbus.

Though not married, Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn (who play Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus) have been in a relationship since 1983.

Steven Van Zandt, who had a cameo as guitarist Wolfie in the jail scene of the first movie, produced and wrote the song "The Spirit of Christmas" for this film.

Jola, the Yule Cat, takes inspiration from Icelandic folklore. In Iceland there are 13 "Santas" called the "Yule Lads" who used to be a mischievous bunch, but in the present day they give gifts to children in the 13 days leading up to Christmas Day. Their mother, Gr?la, is still an evil folklore character who kidnaps badly behaved children and eats them. The Yule Cat is hers and eats children who don't get new clothes for Christmas. However, he is different in appearance than the Jola in this film. The Icelandic name for the Yule Cat is J?lak?tturinn.

At 42:10, whilst Santa and Mrs. Claus sleep by the fireside, the TV is playing It's a Wonderful Life (1946) with an Elvish language dub. This is a trademark of director Christopher Columbus in his films set around Christmas. In Home Alone (1990), the McCallister family watch the film with a French Dub whilst in Paris. In Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), the McCallister family once again watch the film but this time with a Spanish dub whilst in Florida. In Gremlins (1984) (which Christopher Columbus wrote), the Peltzer family watch the film on TV.

Continuity

Kate's hat gets singed and is undamaged in later shots.

Factual errors

Locations North of The Arctic Circle (such as The North Pole) experience a phenomenon known as "polar night" between early October and early March, during which the sun never rises. Yet The North Pole is depicted in both bright sunny daylight and starry night time scenes in December, just hours apart... an impossibility. When Mrs. Claus tells the children they "get up at the crack of dawn around here", realistically that would still be more than two months away.

The movie scene where it shows Santa and Kate flying through and landing in a snowstorm at Logan International on Christmas Eve, 1990. In actuality, Christmas Eve was the warmest on record for Boston with a high of 66.9 degrees. No snow.

Full moon occurs on December 29 in 2020. Moon was shown as full on Christmas Day.

When the elves are making snow, one of the elves asks Kate, in Elfish, if she wants to make snow angels. She talks back in Elfish and says, "I'd love to!" Jack, not understanding the language, says, "What?" She grabs Jack and they both lie down and begin to make snow angels together. Jack could not have known what Kate was planning to do.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

Young Doug uses his Pierce Family pocket knife to get away from the authorities at the airport. How did he get a pocket knife through airport security? This scene takes place in 1990. Before 9/11, airports handled their own security, and pocket knives were not banned.

Errors in geography

There are no mountains or trees at the North Pole.

Character error

When Bob is telling everyone about the prizes we see a shot of him holding the tickets for the snorkeling trip. Snorkeling is spelled incorrectly.
